2021 Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim
The 26th running of the 2021 Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim was conducted on Tuesday 28 December 2021 at Point Roadknight Beach, Anglesea. The annual event, which was unable to be conducted in 2020 as a result of the pandemic, is a major fundraiser for the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club.
The Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim consists of four event categories, with the Kid's Dash (200m & 300m distances), 2.5km, 600m and the traditional 1.2km swim distances. 887 swimmers participated in the event in challenging conditions with strong south-easterly winds and strong currents present for much of the event.
Matt Gilling had a very successful day backing up after winning the 2.5km event at the start of the day with a time of 00:26:28 to also win the traditional 1.2km event with a time of 00:12:46. Campbell Batchelor won the 600m event with a time of 00:08:12.
Sophie Thomas backed up from the 2019 Burson Rock2Ramp to again win the traditional 1.2km event with a time of 00:15:01, with Claire Milligan taking out first in the 2.5km event with a time of 00:32:03. Chloe Walsh won the 600m event with a time of 00:08:12.
In the Surf'n'Turf category, which is a combination of the best times from the competitors who competed in both the 8km run, as part of the Roo Run (conducted the day before), and the 1.2km event at the Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim, Robert Peyerl won the mens with a combined time of 01:21:43. Rebecca Henderson continued her dominance of this category taking out the womens with a combined time of 01:05:42.
