Preparing for the Swim: Tips and Training

Once you have entered the swim, success in the Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim depends on preparation. Training in open water conditions is crucial because it differs significantly from pool swimming (there is no black line to follow!). Here are some practical tips to help you get ready:

  • Practice in open water to get used to waves/swell, currents, and varying temperatures. Whilst Point Roadknight is generally a calmer ocean environment, the conditions can vary.

  • Build endurance gradually by increasing your swim distance week by week. For training tips head to the Great Ocean Training Platform free to all 2025 entrants. For login details check your entry confirmation email.

  • Work on sighting techniques to stay on course during the swim.

  • Use a wetsuit if you can to improve buoyancy and warmth. If you do, please be sure to check out Great Ocean Performance.

  • Plan for the day so that you know how to get there, where to park, what time you're swimming and the course. For more information go to https://www.rock2ramp.com/

Nutrition and hydration also play a key role. Eat balanced meals rich in carbohydrates and stay hydrated in the days leading up to the event. On race day, avoid heavy foods and focus on light, energy-boosting snacks.

We can't wait to see you at the 30th Birthday of the Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim.
